As a journalist, I love websites that are taking my profession to the next level. Here are two that have grabbed my attention lately and I look forward to contributing to sometime in the future.
In the U.S. a non-profit organization named ProPublica is dedicated to serving the public interest by providing investigative stories online. Their investigations look at everything within the Beltway in Washington, D.C. to keep government accountable and provide a service that corporate news organizations aren’t able to invest their resources into. The Associated Press just announced that they will be using ProPublica’s reports in their wire service.
And from Nobel laureate Al Gore, a website that takes independent television to millions of households: Current TV. It’s a news site that takes professional and amateur video from anyone and lets you post it for the world to see, from documentaries to entertainment to rants. Of course not everything makes it on air, they must be selective and put the good content online. Recently Current TV announced a deal with CBC in Canada to broadcast and set up here. This is something to look forward to.
